I've started the process of working on my new E9. A lot of questions will come , so I ask for your patience.

As you can see someone added a third brake light to my car, I want to remove it, but would like to know what the correct material for the shelf behind the seat is. I've seen some that look like black vinyl, is this correct? Would it be different for tan interiors like the ones in my car?

Thanks

Except for the 1974 US 3.0 CS, which were oufitted with a tan carpeted rear shelf, probably the same material as the regular carpet, it's believed all other coupes regardless of year and country of origin came with black vinyled rear shelves.

Er no
The rear shelf in the bucket is Marine Blue, matching the seats. It is carpet like material and I am pretty sure original

The package shelf in all 74 & 75 E9's, with the exception of the CSL, were fitted with carpet that matched the interior carpet.

In early models, black vinyl was used to cover the package tray. My car has a very sheer fabric which gives an original look but allows for speakers to be mounted without cut-outs. Nice detail for CS restoration developed by Peter Sliskovich.

Thanks for the replies, since my car is a '72, I guess it's safe to assume it would have left the factory with black vinyl.

It goes to the upholster on Monday
