I'm installing a small amplifier for my car cassette/stereo and need to run the power wire to my battery. Does anyone have any experience running a wire from our car's interior to the battery?

Do you need to go to the battery?

Do you actually need to run back to the batt? Why? What amperage will the line carry?

If low amps maybe a run to the ignition switch will do.

If high amps and you know the wire gage recommended to carry the rated amps plus safety factor, I'd run under the carpet, along the lower edge of the tunnel and through the firewall at an existing penetration. There are a couple to choose from.

I will say that I haven't done this on my coupe. When I relocated the battery on my 2002 I ran external hot and ground under the car and into the trunk.

power wire

I just put an amp in my trunk and receiver in the glove box. The power wire is 8 gauge and needs to come from the battery (starter would work, but fuse needs to be near power source I was told). I ran it along the harness from the battery through the firewall where the speedo cable comes through. I pulled up the edge of the carpets, ran it under the outside seat support, then up the rear wheel well through the opening into the trunk near the parcel shelf. I ran the audio cables up the passenger side in the same fashion. I put shrink tube over the red power cable to be more discreet. It is very tidy and nothing is visible in the trunk either. With only 2 rear 6x9 speakers, I bridged the amp's channels from 4 to 2 to get 80W. I have a small chrome Blaupunkt in the A/C panel.
