Question regarding rear muffler

Does anyone know if a 71 2800 cs rear muffler will fit on a 71 3.0 cs? Thanks in advance. The muffler is no longer available for the 2800 so I cant compare part numbers.

The 3.0 part number does not cross-reference to the 2800CS, isn't the diameter different?

Pretty sure the 2800 tail pipes are smaller in diameter than the 3.0. First hand from a chrome tip that would not fitX2.

If one

were being frugal, a tail pipe expander would perhaps do in a pinch. The diameter difference is relatively small and a 2800 muffler is $89 vs $300.

The other alternative would be for those that can weld to cut the inlet/ outlet very short add the diameter pipe and weld away.( The new SS band clamps might be the ticket.)

Personally, I would recommend the SS Flowmaster and ss tailpipe and band clamps unless you lean towards strickly original.

Oops! You're right. The previous page on the Classic Garage website reads: "2500, 2800, 3000 Includes: 2500, 2500cs, 2800, 2800cs, 3000, 3000cs " which implied to me that when I clicked through, I would get to parts for a CS.

Yes, It is for the wrong 2800. I thought I was going to get lucky for a change. I wonder if it could somehow be adapted? Probably not.
