I have read many of the posting regarding 3.2/3.5 Engine conversions. I have a few identification questions regarding my recent purchase of a 84 3.5 liter engine. On the block of the engine, in the inside portion I noticed a letters "4F" that was paint on the block. Can anyone tell me what info that may denote?

Also, I currently have the smaller webers on my coupe but am wondering with the bigger engine that I will be installing, what is the perferred method to deliver petro to the engine, carbs, fuel injection, motronics etc. Pros/Cons or drawbacks to the different systems. I have attached the links to pictures of engine, getrag setup that I plan to install in this spring.

I appreciate anything that you maybe able to tell me regarding the engine, tranny, parts needed etc, as I would like to install them this spring into my 73 CSA.

I saw in the flikr account a rebuilt B34 head. Looks nice, and the cam will be good.

More often than not, switching the car to fuel injection, specifically the Motronic, is the preferred method. Parts are readily available, and it looks like you have most of it already, if you have the DME stashed away somewhere.

Alternatively, since you have the engine out and will be switching everything anyway, why not go all out and do a MegaSquirt build? That way, you can correctly tune the car for any future changes you make, and you will be able to fully use the Shrick you've got in that head. If this is the engine you want to use, you may want to consider increasing the valve size too, as that helps the car breathe a good bit better.

I also saw you had a Getrag 265 CR all lined up. Any reason you went with the CR versus the OD trans? Most coupesters that I've talked with that had a CR box either switched it for an OD box or switched the diff to a much lower ratio, like a 3.07. (used in the E24s)

Thanks Atlas

That was just the kind of feedback I was looking for timely and infromative. I think I will try to go with the Motronic system using the provided manifold, when I am doing my my Spring Conversion Projects. I have not pinned down the DME injection computer, hopefully it is still connected to the wireharness.

Also, I did a search of this site and it led me to old discussions on Motronics and links to old CSregistry articles. Guess I am going to need to start looking for the 2002tii break booster, as well as many other scavenger hunt list items. Looking forward to it. Now all I got to do is hit the Lottery. -LOL!

3.5 Conversion

I'm glad when I had the 3.5 transplant done, I also converted to Motronic. No more driveablity issues - very satisfied with the results. Gas mileage improved only marginally.

HA! Who knows what

The mysterious "4F" painted the inside of the engine block actually stands for. I will have to see if I can get a good picture of this and posted it on the site to see if we can figure out what the heck it means.
