Hi,

I'm in the process of swapping out the bad slush box in my e3 for a manual.
I took the manual drive shaft to a local shop that specializes on re-building, balancing etc.
They did a great job on my e9 shaft 5 years ago.

I was told that it cannot be balanced because of dent in the rear section. They recommend replacing the whole thing.

My question simply: is the rear section of automatic shafts the same as the rear section of the manual shaft?
Can I just swap out the front sections?

Haven't begun to take the automatic drive train out yet so I can't compare them side by side.

Thanks,

John M

A qualified answer-
On the e9 driveshafts the rear sections are exactly the same automatic and manual.
Fronts are different both in total length and in nose length.
The 2800 front flange is different in the size of the bolt holes.

I believe you will be using your auto rear with manual front with no problem

Thanks Don.

I suspect they are the same. I plan to take the the auto drive shaft out this week, measure them side by side and have the drive shaft shop build one good manual shaft out of the two.
