Escort has quite a few new radar and laser detection devices out now. A hidden one would be great. Does anyone have any thoughts on which is the one to buy ? Thank you in advance . ~ John Buchtenkirch

radar detector

here is the one i installed - http://www.amazon.com/Escort-010000...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1322073041&sr=1-14, i see its dropped in price also, i think i paid aroudn $1k.
install is easy and per pics below.
first pic shows detector mounted behind grill via one of the headlight bolts.
second pic shows led mounted at top of shift console (this is the only mod i did, and since was only a hole through a piece of wood, i was ok with)
third pic is control module velcro'd below the drivers seat - its not very accessible, but turns out you need to adjust it very seldomly.

the voice warning is great - it says 'laser warning', or 'k band detected', and false alarms are very rare, so when you hear it, you slow down.

you also need to stash the controller box somwhere that you will hear it, i put mine at the very back of the console.

performance is superb - has saved me many many times.

I still think that the V-1 arrows are the absolute best feature of any radar detector I've owned. I have a Passport 9500 ix and like the red light/photo gps feature, but all things considered, the V1 is hands down better. The Passport's display is also hard to see.

Anyone want a used 9500ix- I'm buying another V1.

By the way, laser detectors are only good for letting you know you just got lit up. Go ahead and find a safe place to pull over because a human cannot react fast enough to change the fact your speed is now on the display of the law enforcement officer's laser unit.

Escort vs. Valentine

I have them both. I started with Valentine, and swore by it. However, too many damn false alarms. Yes it's clever you know where they are coming from, but false is false and I don't care where they are coming from so long as it is false. Escort is MUCH better. Leaps and bounds. As good or better in terms of sensitivity but with added GPS memory, it is off the charts better. ONLY problem is that it gives a false sense of security, which doesn't work if you get clocked by an airplane doing 98mph in Cayenne Turbo S. Actually, I was lucky, as I had just been going MUCH faster before I got clocked.

Also, I just ordered Escort Live, which will change everything once enough people start using it.

My 2 educated sense.
