Looking at getting a new radiator for the coupe. Current one seems to have some cosmetic damages, I think the fan was hitting it some time ago. The fan is replaced but the radiator was not. Walloth seems to sell a couple of them. Since I have a manual, A/C car, is this the right one to buy? https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/radiator-man-gearbox-air-condition-11-25-10.html. Should I take this opportunity to upgrade to an aluminum radiator?

That’s it. You don’t need aluminum especially since it has been cool as is. You can check with a BMW dealer for an e24 radiator as well.

i emailed Walloth and found out that the radiator they sell is NOT an original BMW model ... its an OEM version. i recommend that you buy the early e24 version that fits the e9. part number 17111121295. should be able to be purchased for around $620. check with mybimmerparts.com (a dealer), they have one on order for me right now (coming from germany). the 3.0cs model does not have a plug for a temperature sender - important for a/c. there is another e24 version, that isn't designed for hot weather and a/c ... its substantially cheaper but harder to find. 17111111638, should be able to be bought for around 375. neither version supports a cat, and both are drop into an e9

The 74 uses that plug for the sending unit to activate the fan if needed, just a suspender to go with your belt as they say. The e24 Behr rad does say BMW on it if that matters, it doesn’t to me.

+1 having old rad rebuilt and triple cored.

i know the A/C components were updated in the late 2000s and converted to r134a. Maybe the car already has an e24 radiator in it. It’s just cosmetically (slightly) damaged.

We ordered 50 aluminum radiators from China 6 months ago...
nothing has shown up.... I know of no good cheap radiators at this time.
we Re-core 2 rows not 3. We use spin on fan clutches and Spal pusher fans.
A good radiator has various attributes-
accommodates a fan shroud, top and bottom.
has a bung on the lower neck.
the core is offset forward In the frame- not towards the fan
The lower neck is pointed up, not back to the AC compressor
the upper neck is pointed back to accommodate the hose clamp
we use radiator paint only not engine enamel!

If the fins are bent, pull it out, and pay your child a dime per fin too straighten out the cosmetic damage (w a proper tool). Then rattle can it black to cover any exposed copper. It’s a heck of a lot cheaper than tossing an otherwise good radiator.

i am not that worried about it saying BMW, i just remembered what a pro from SFO said - he wasn't happy with the rads from W+N

So this is a drop in replacement for the e9? @rsporsche
yes. w+n even lists that number on their e9 page. do a search on realoem for that part number and you will see e9 listed
