Are these available new as well as the base for them? I have a flat plastic one and it doesn't look right. If they are does anyone know the part number?

Regards,

Rohan

it's NLA.
be careful with the one you can buy now,it's different from the original.

I have bought new ones from BMW (last year, Sweden). They are made of metal, not plastic.

However, the blue colour on the BMW emblem propeller is slightly darker. So - from a puritan view of mind, they are are not identical with the emblems that the car had when it was delievered. However, from a supplier point of view, they are original stuff from BMW. From my point of view, they are ok, but I can without any problem tell them apart.

Poad, any chance you have the part number of the badge to hand? I wouldn't mind about the colour too much. The flat plastic one I have at the moment looks wrong on the car.

I do not have the part number; the guy at the BMW dealer placed the order for me.

However, I might be able to help you out. If you send me an e-mail including pictures of all parts of the emblem that you need. I will then see if I can find the old ones (I am willing to sell them to you). If I correctly remember, they are ok but got some scratches.

Thanks for your offer and help. I need new ones really. I can go into the bmw dealer but i know full well they will say yeah yeah and when i go to collect it will be a plastic one waiting for me!

Just phoned up the dealer and they say the rear badge is available

part no 51145081747 but the bezel is unavailable. Does that part number look like the right one to anyone?

I have been contact with my BMW dealer. The part numbers we used are:

51141872327 (emblem/badge)
51145780171 (base)
51145780172 (base)

Regards, Per

Thanks Per,

the dealer has ordered the badge and one part of the base but the bottom most part is NLA apparantly.

Regards,

Rohan

By the way, part number 51145081747 is for the badge/emblem on the hood.

Parts of the original rear deck badge

the base pieces for the F/R roundels originally had a seal beneath them to separate the metal from the underlying paintwork.

As a matter of interest and guidance to all newer owners:

METAL TO METAL CONTACT WAS GENERALLY NOT ALLOWED ON THE COUPE--VIRTUALLY EVERY METAL PART THAT WAS TO COME INTO DIRECT CONTACT WITH ONE ANOTHER OR A PAINTED SURFACE--HAD A SPACER/SEAL TO ISOLATE ONE FROM THE OTHER. EXAMPLE--F/R BUMPER ENDS TO THE BODY WERE ALWAYS BUFFERED BY A SEAL AS WERE THE OVER-RIDERS F & R TO OTHER BUMPER PARTS AND TO PAINTED BODY PARTS--ALSO TRIM STRIPS AT THE TOP OF DOORS AND QUARTER PANEL HAD A SMALL "U" SHAPED PLASTIC STRIP UNDERLYING THE TRIM EDGE TO TOP OF DOOR AND QUARTER AREA--THESE ARE OFTEN TOSSED OUT.

AMONG THE VERY FEW EXCEPTIONS THAT COME TO MIND--THE ROUNDEL SURROUNDS AT THE "C" PILLAR WERE FREE FLOATING BUT NOT THE ROUNDEL--AND THE RAIN GUTTER TRIM STRIP WHICH IS CORRECTLY BUFFERED BY A VERY FINE LINE OF "DUM-DUM"

IF THESE GUIDELINES ARE IGNORED AND SPACER/SEALS ARE OMITTED WHEN A COUPE IS RE-ASSEMBLED FOLLOWING METAL AND PAINT WORK (A FAIRLY COMMON OCCURENCE) THE COUPE WILL RATTLE AND CREAK--IN CONTRAST WHEN OBSERVED THERE WILL BE NONE.

Blumax post

Interesting that it is to prevent rattles and creaks - understandable for bumpers - but roundels?

For a moment I thought the spacers were to minimize rust due to metal to metal contact - but that would go against the basic design of the e9 - i.e. to promote rust.

E9 raised letter

Maybe I can shed some light here. I am the guy who has been selling the raised letter hood roundels on Ebay. BMW produced at least three versions of this hood roundel. The first and what the cars originally came with was a 2 piece the roundel and the base. The have been NLA for a long time although the base is still available the roundel is not. The second version was a one piece made with good quality metal and the base and roundel where fused together. These are also NLA except the ones that I have. After BMW sold all of the second version roundels they started producing a third. These have gone back to a 2 piece set up. The base is the original type, the roundel how ever is a cheaply made raised letter. These are not the quality of the previous versions. I have had a few of the latest versions which I have sold only to people who can touch and feel them as pictures do not do them justice as they are very lightweight and the back has dimples from the manufacturing process. They are hard to describe in words but I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Rear roundel

FYI the rear roundels are available the 747 number. The reason he said the bezel was not available is because they are not but this roundel requires no bezel as it is made formed to the body and this is not a raised letter. Thanks

I have a pair of original front and rear badges with bezels , but my problem is the badge colour has now faded badly and are now almost just silver colour, can anyone tell of any companys that can recondition the badges back to excellent or as new condition?
Thanks Neil.

Emblems

I have several curved bases for the trunlid, from at least 2 different sources, both claiming to be NOS. I spent a good hour last week trying various combinations of one and two piece combos, incl. the light grey plastic cover to separate the trunklid from the emblem socket/base.
Here are my findings: the grey plastic protection pad, available from BMW today (via Mobile Tradition??) is too small to fit! All curved parts, whether part of raised profile emblem or separate, DON´T match the curve of the trunklid (which is metal and original)!! At the end, I kept the plastic, integrated emblem with smooth surface which fits perfectly. All the money spent on E-bay and with other sources of NOS was a total waste.
However, my all-original, ex-Italian CSi, with raised profile emblem in one piece plus transparent plastic cover, fits just fine.
To do justice to the guy in Texas selling front raised profile, one-piece emblems: they fit very well. I thus replaced the front plastic, one-piece emblem with his product.
