Are about to install crank in block with new main bearings from W&N. Look at the photos showing old and new bearing half side by side, and new ones in the block except for the one.

The old bearing hole exactly lined up exactly with the hole in the block .

But as shown, the new bearing hole is smaller, and when installed seems to block about half of the hole in the block.

However, by doing so may actually force some of the oil into the other slot, by flowing in the recess groove in the bearing saddle, distributing the lubrication more evenly?

The photo clearly shows the different hole offset location and size of the new bearing half compared to the old. To our knowledge the old bearing was original.

There is no groove on the back side of the bearing half, old or new.

IS THIS BY DESIGN? Is this an update for better oil flow.

Or is this just an aftermarket design.

We are hesitant to go ahead and install these. Are we raising a non concern?

Opinions? Would any of you use these?

Pictures of the Glyco bearing set (below) for sale (if you can find them) looks just like the Kolbenschmidt set we got from W&N.

bearing hole not blocking anything, there is a groove or channel in the engine, oil will flow perfectly, do not worry

deQuincy is correct. After thinking about the question, the bearings will be fine, must be a newer design. The visual appearance when installing the bearings and the comparison with the old ones prompted raising the question.

Thanks and now lets get the crank in and proceed.
