mysteriously my car is without a rear anti roll bar. i always thought the handling was a little dissapointing !

i know someone who is breaking a 6 series - any ideas if the rear roll bar from this would fit my coupe ?

any clues gratefully received !

is there a possibility that my late csi was never fitted with a rear anti roll bar ?

any light that can be shed on this would be much appreciated

thanks !

It might, depends on the trailing arms used. If they are like your E9 then chances are it will fit.
Does your subframe have the mounting points on it?
Other possible sources are the old 5 series

If the 6 series is a 76-82, the rear sway bar should fit. However, I think it will be a larger diameter than the E9 bar. The corresponding front bar from the same 6 might fit (these seem to vary from car to car.) and the combination will give you flatter cornering.

The later 6s have a very different suspension design and are not interchangeable.

The early 6s have the same suspension design as the E12 5 series and the later cars are the same as the E28 5 series.

I think the E9 rear bars are 16mm and the early 6s something like 19mm.

[Edit] I missed that you have a '74 CS. They have larger front bars than the earlier E9s and will probably be ok with the early 6 series bar.

In response to your second question, I didn't have a rear bar on my '74 3.0CS USA, either. I just added one pulled from a Bavaria. I haven't tried to evaluate the change in handling yet.

thanks chaps for all the info. i'm thinking that maybe the late model wasn't fitted with the rear bar at the factory (intrigued to know why if that's the case ...) but will see what happens with one in place.
