Rear brake bias valve I think

Hello while restoring the rear axle etc came across what I think is some sort of bias valve for the braking system . From memory it was bolted to the diff hanger .

Is this part still available and does anyone have a part no. and can it be done away with or replaced with something else .

Mine looks in bad shape on the outside and don't know if it even works .

What have you guys done ?

sadly, the part is NLA. it can be rebuilt. i have heard of people removing it and replacing it with a T fitting. i just can't speak to the viability of this idea ... or to ability to speak to how well it works. actually M5bb (Gary) + i were speaking of this yesterday.

A better solution would be to install an aftermarket biasing valve. Wilwood and others sell them. The aftermarket ones are adjustable, so you'd need to play with it a bit to get the correct setting.

the Wilwood valve looks like it will require a little change to our system. if i am not mistaken, our pressure regulator has 2 outlets (1 for each side), and the Wilwood has one inlet / 1 outlet.

no argument that Wilwood makes great products ... and this valve is only 57 bucks from Ireland. cheaper than getting the stock piece rebuilt.

Looks can be deceiving. In addition to deQ's excellent writeup, the unit can be tested and adjusted as described in the manual.

Brake pressure limiter - checking
Connect a high pressure gauge to the front end rear axle brake circuit and a second gauge to the rear brake caliper. Depress the brake pedal and hold down with the pedal prop.
Until a pressure of 20 atü (285 psi) is registered, both pressure gauges must indicate the same reading. From 20 atü (285) upwards, the pressure at the rear fixed caliper should be correspondingly reduced as
shown in the diagram. A output pressure B input pressure C tolerance range If the measured values differ from the nominal values, the repaired rear axle pressure can be set with the adjusting screw when the brakes are released. Screw out - increases rear axle pressure Screw in - reduced rear axle pressure Prevent the adjusting screw and castellated
nut from turning with Klebert M 28 sealer.

I think I'm going to throw out my Blue Books and just follow DQ's "How to" with the excellent pictures.
Heck, I'm going to print them all, create a book and sell on Ebay for more than the Blue Books.

Hi DQ,

Of course, I'm kidding about producing a book for sale but you may want to consider it. When I have more time, I'm considering to actually print all your Posts with instructions/pictures and then place them in the appropriate sections of the Blue Books or create a separate book with cross reference to the Blue Books. It can only help.

I'm waiting for you to take an engine completely apart, rebuild it and then put back together with step by step instructions and pictures. :mrgreen:
