Rear brake caliper question

I am going to refresh all the brake calipers on my '74, and have started. I knew the right rear pads were 'hanging' a bit, but when removed, I found the pistons were essentially frozen. So, I bought rebuilt calipers for both rear wheels. The rebuilt ones are obviously for non-ventilated rotors. My rotors are ventilated, and the calipers I removed have spacers between the two halves. I will remove those and install them on the rebuilt calipers.

My question is: Are there any 'tricks' to separating the old calipers to get the spacers out, and any special techniques for installing them in the rebuilt calipers once I've separated them. I appreciate the counsel from the wise and experienced members on this forum.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I had the same experience earlier this year with the wrong rebuilt calipers. I ended up painting and up rebuilding the original calipers.

Several people commented in other threads that the caliper bolts are one-time use.

Erik and Charlie,

THANKS for the info regarding the PMB post. Wow - that is a great 'how to' for this task. Gotta get one more set of tools!!! That always makes a project a good one!! - ha.
