Does anybody know where I can buy the correct rear calipers for the E9. There are a lot available on various web sites that say fit the Bavaria and the E9. The problem is , the Bavaria has solid rear discs and the E9 has vented discs which call for a wider caliper than the one they list. I realize that I could go to solid discs, but I would like to keep the vented discs.

You mean, besides BMW...?? They seem to be available:

I just went through this. I ordered two inexpensive rebuilt rear calipers from Rockauto. They were both too narrow.

In terms of searching, though, realoem shows the rear caliper as the same as a 630CSi or 633CSi up through 09/1982. After that I believe they went with the new-style single-piston calipers. Rockauto does show inexpensive rebuilds for these through, I believe, Cardone, but you have to send them yours.

I wound up buying a single used rear caliper on eBay.

I'm doing this now with a rear disc swap on a 2800cs. The rear calipers are the same as the 6-series, both having the vented discs, but they use spacers between the caliper halves to accomodate the wider disc. I'm assuming the calipers are the same on the Bavaria/E3 but without the spacers.

Not all six series. The 77-82 models. The euro calipers have the spacers in order for them to fit over the vented rotors and the fronts have 4 pistons.

I had mine rebuilt earlier this year, but still having a problem finding anti-rattle clips for the vented. On E-bay, ATE brand for '68-'73 Porsche 911s (vented rears) "appear" to be exactly the same. Can anyone confirm, or have suggestions?

Dealer available for the 77-82 six series.

E3s from 3.0 on and 6 series until 5/1982 use the same calipers of e9 3.0CS/CSi, at least here in europe......
anti rattles are for sale in europe and also from dealer, price is not popular....about 40 euro each corner with the 2 studs retaining the brake pads...
also wallothnesch.com and bmw-oldtimerteile.de (try to google "stefan ries bmw teile") sell them....
hope this helps..

Check dealer prices.Couple years ago I was parting out a Bavaria and someone wanted backer plates, dealer wanted like $13,not worth the effort to pull and ship used.

Brand new from BMW...while not terribly expensive, it is not cheap either @$76.25. 34 21 1 107 097-left 34 21 1 107 098-right. They are a bitch to replace though as the entire rear hub needs to be disassembled. At least the price has not gone up much or may have come down slightly, bought new one about 8 years ago for about the same amount.

IF the photo of the caliper is correct, that is the caliper for the thicker rotor. You can see the spacer piece between both caliper halves. The solid rotor calipers don't have that piece.

Thanks! Of course they are out of stock through Rockauto - do you guys have another source you'd recommend?

Cheers

Why do you need new calipers? How about a rebuild of the seals? It's not difficult at all.
