Rear parcel shelf base material

Is it necessary to use wood?What kind and thickness?Would heavy cardboard,door board, work?How would that little spacer "tab" (goes between rear seats)attach?I've seen several panels where the wood has self destructed and would like to prevent that.

I assume you mean the carpeted bit between the seats and the rear window
You can use hardboard, which I believe is Masonite in the US. or door card material if you can get it in sheet form.
You could just glue it down and thus avoid the damage. Once in place I cannot see any reason to keep removing it until the next time the car is restored :?

Original package tray was 4mm thick plywood, make another of marine plywood and it wont rot again.
