The non-vinyl fabric headrest part of my rear seats is gently fading away from the original black color. I've considered re-covering them with new fabric, but thought I'd try re-coloring first since they are otherwise in good shape. Has anyone tried this before?

I did some redying of the velour seats that until recently were in my 72 CS. Not sure whether your material is velour or not, but the lessons are likely the same regardless.

I purchased spray on dye from World Upholstery. The color match was perfect, but I learned that it is very important -- especially with velour -- to use a large, very soft brush and a hair dryer to help the process. Spray on the dye in long, even strokes and then rub the dye into the cloth with the brush as you dry it with a hair dryer on the low setting. If you don't follow the soft brush/hair dryer route, you may end up with uneven coverage and crunchy material.
