The chrome and rubber trim piece on the driver's side rear window fell off today (see below). Fortunately, I was in a parking lot at the time after a 25-minute jaunt on the freeway. It fell off with the rubber gasket solidly insterted in the chrome trim piece. The gasket is in good shape except for a small tear at the bottom of the trim piece, .

A few quesstions about reinstalling it. First, it seems obvious that the trim piece can be reinstalled simply by gently tapping the entire assembly on to the window. But reading this old thread suggests that there are different ways to install this trim: https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/rear-window-vertical-gaskets.17544/. Am I missing something?

Second, assuming it's as straightforward as it seems, what type of adhesive is recommended to ensure it doesn't fall off again?

Third, the gasket extends beyond the end of the chrome piece at the bottom. Is this correct?

Thanks!

I have always put the rubber into the trim and then gently tapped it onto the glass. I haven’t used glue but you can make sure the trim is tight by gently squeezing it first.

As further evidence, what about why the 4 bars just don't seem to fit right? Did 74 front clips have a different opening?
