I installed the front seal on Saturday, and will install the rear one within the next couple of days, but want some of you experts to help with the exact location!! The old one I removed was in such 'ground off' (from polishers) condition that I couldn't be sure exactly where it should be located vertically.

The top of the front sunroof seal is about level (maybe 1-2 mm above the car's roof surface as installed. Is the top of the rear sunroof seal also supposed to be either level with, or a mm or 2 above the car's roof?

Also, any tips on installing the adhesive and the rear seal are very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Hi Gary, I just did the front as well and will do the rear in a couple of days. Once you remove the old seal you will probably need to clean off as much goop as possible with some solvent being careful not to rub too hard and take off any paint. Normally the solvent will not take off paint on your car but best to be careful. Then what I do is use some masking tape to cover the paint bringing the edge of the tape just a "hair" over the lip- that will prevent any glue from getting on the paint (ask me how I know). I specifically ordered some Wurth glue for this and use the brush on the sunroof side and on the seal side and the top bead should be just level with the top of the sunroof. If you want I will send you some pictures as I can accelerate my project tomorrow and snap some shots. I did this on my blue coupe, came out perfect (except a little glue on the paint) which I then removed but it made me nervous, thus the tape I recommend.

Hi Alan, I think that's for the 2002, the e9 is different (any wonder) but I believe the seal is affixed to the roof in front and to the sunroof panel in the rear... pretty sure

Front seal attaches to the car on E9s and 2002s
Rear seal attaches to the sunroof panels on both the E9 & 2002s. Keith Kreegers rear seal install is incorrect.
