Rear suspension bush query

Wondering if anyone can advise which way the rear shock absorber top rubber bush mounts into the turrets - down from the top (from inside the trunk), or up from below from inside the turret - please see illustration attached. Option A makes the most sense to me, but I'd like to be sure. Thanks in anticipation! David

How many bought the $40 rubber bushing to fit your rear Bilsteins?

So does yours look like the above pictures with the stock metal bushing? Does that mean that the e12 had a larger metal bushing? these were bought long time ago at bmw, shape seems different, they fit tight

As DWMBMW’s link shows, differing opinions on this.
With similar NK rear suspension design, this is what the factory repair manual shows for the E10s:

The user manual above by @3moons from the E10 is also how the E9 rubber element should be installed. it is a bit counter intuitive to have the thick part on the top, but after installation it flattened anyway.
