Anyone found a suitable generic replacement from someplace other than dealer, like JC Whitney,Steeles, etc? In fact are there ANY bits of weatherstrip, gasket, etc, available from other sources?(Besides Walloth,Jaymic)Thanks.

Rear window felt gasket, etc--

look back in earlier posts for same question--the answer is there from Chris in HB--

As I recall he reported that--similar material in bulk form is available by the meter from MBZ--does requires some level of skill and care to cut, shape and then attach to the E-9 trim pieces

Does Carl have the curved felt liners that go under the rubber on the outside of the rear quarter windows?

How difficult a job is it to replace the U-shaped felt that go in the door window assemblies (that carries the main door windows?

rear window parts

The U channel felt is $50 a meter. Runner squegee is rougly $50 a side and the riveted felt piece is nla. There maybe a chance that Bmw MobileTradition may reproduce this part at some point.

The fitment of the U channel requires the removal of the vent window frame assembly. Start out by removing both inside and outside chrome door trim. Next, remove the interior door panel. Remove the a vent window regulator,
pop out vent window and finally remove the three securing bolts, two on top and the single shiming bolt on the bottom.

The frame is free to pull out now. Before ripping out old channel, measure it's length and duplicate on new channel. The window sliding mechanism rides on top of the channel, if it is not the right length, the channel may get
get mutilated by the up and down actions of window operation. Don't recall whether strip was glue on or clip attached, use weather strip adhesive if
necessary.

Clean window frame groove before fitting of new U channel. Reassembly is the reversal of removal process. Reattached the mounting bolts and adjust the shiming bolt as necessary. This step is very important as the whole window attaching mechanisms need to ne perfectly aligned for the window to operate perfectly. Reattach door panel and chrome trims and the job is finished.

The U channel felt is also used for the rear window sealing. Look on top of window glass. You may want to order a few extra meter of material for these task.

Good luck if you tackle this job. Take your time and everything will go smoothly and accordinly.

U-channel felt exchange

Thanks,
it´s always nice to learn from other board members who have experience to share!
When I look at a spare set of vent window frames which I have (and might rechrome one day), it would seem possible to change the felt channel without removing the frame from the door. Perhaps even with the window and doorpanels in place (window at bottom position of course). Exact length and inserting at bottom first, but this has perhaps been tried and discarded by someone who will since agree that the detailed procedure of the previous message is the only way to do it?!?!?

No need to remove window frame. You can pull up and out the old channel, then cut a new piece to same length and then push back down into the frame.
