On the wiring diagram, BMW shows a brown, a black and a blue/green wire attached to the demister switch. Yet the switch has only 2 contacts: 53a and 53b. Anyone know how this is supposed to be connected?

Just to clarify; I have the later? style switch mounted on the gear lever console.

From memory the three wire switch is for:
1..power to the heated rear window
2..Supply
3..to illuminate the switch bulb when on
This may of changed if the switch is no longer illuminated or the power for the bulb is now from the supply in the "on" position

but you are probably referring to the older style push switch "above the driver´s right knee". On my Euro spec 1974, the demist switch is located on the gear shift console, opposite the cigarrette lighter. This demist switch has only 2 contacts. I have just ordered the large, laminated wiring diagrams, one for pre 1973 and one for late 73-75.
