I may have posted about this here a few months ago, but I have some updates.

I picked up an M88/3 that had thrown the timing chain. I went by the machine shop yesterday now that they had disassembled the engine. The results - not bad! Phew.

The engine stopped spinning when the valves hit piston #1. The #1 lifter damaged the journal in the cam box, the valves in #1 are bent, but the piston actually looks ok. It's eyebrowed, but the machine shop says it will clean up fine! The cam box can be repaired/sleeved or I can get a replacement. The harmonic balancer also chewed up the woodruff keyway in the end of the crank but it also looks repairable.

I'll post some photos soon when I get them off my camera.

I can replace the timing set w/ an S38 dual row chain setup for $993 for OEM parts. So I am in for the repairs, timing set, gaskets, rings, and bearings.

Then I need to learn more about fitting this engine into the Coupe. I know a few people have done the S38 which is the same dimensions. I tried searching here but couldn't get any results on S38 for some reason.

This is an incredible engine and very rare as it was only sold in Euro cars. It's 10.5:1 stock CR and has 50MM throttle bodies :)

searching forum for short words

As James noticed the forum search tool does not appear to work for short words. A Google search provide a workaround. So if want to search hour forum for, say, "s38" search on Google using these terms:
s38 site:e9coupe.com
There are quite a few results...

Yes, I was even able to find my original post!

I'll post the pictures there.
