Hi All -- thought I would share some car porn from a recent trip to FL. First up is a series of pictures from the Naples, FL Ferrari Club's "Cars on Fifth" show.

The CSL:

Love the Ferrari 250 PF Cabriolet with the ropes around it, it's one of my dream cars. Nice 190SL and the Tucker...seems there are more than 48 or now 49 of them.

Looks like a great show.

Yeah, they just finished the restoration on that Ferrari and the owner had only owned it for a month. The paint was just beautiful. I chatted with him for a while; he said this will be the cleanest it will be from now on because he plans to drive it. Good for him.

Is the REVS Institute the museum? Looks amazing, although the Porsch 906 needs some CN lowering springs and it's DOT spacers removed

The Revs looks awesome, got my heart all a flutter and swooning with the Deusenbergs, I think the roadster was either Clark Gables or Howard Hughes, a Silver Arrow Mercedes, a Cunningham or three, an Alfa similar to one my friend Dick King owns, a lovely 328, and a Jean Bugatti roadster all the stuff of legends. What a great place, similar in scope of the Simeone Institute Collection.

I think that may be Scott Craters CSL.
Haven't seen it in few years.
He lives in FL and I know he was working on it recently.

Steve, don't you know his car?

Maybe he will chime in.

If it is Scott Crater's car that's before it was delivered to VSR, it's been there for about 3-4 weeks now.

The REVS institute displays Miles Collier's car collection (you may recognize the name; Collier county is named for his dad). Years ago, it was simply the Collier County Car Museum, then it closed for several years and reopened as the REVS institute. Apparently they have a huge literature collection on cars and society.

They are very proud to own a Mercedes Silver Arrow (I believe two remain in existence), Clark Gable's Dusey, a bunch of historic Cunninghams, one of Enzo's personal Ferraris and the largest collection of milestone Porsches outside Stuttgart. I had a toy version of that 917 when I was eleven years old and the black 911 is the first 911 every to race anywhere in the world. Dan Gurney's F1 car was pretty cool too, and that red Mercedes with the black wire wheels was the last car Ferdinand Porsche designed for Mercedes before he left to start his own company.

The CSL belongs to a guy named Craig Brody, who is a collector and dealer of both cars and guitars (so he tells me).

That is Craig Brody's car, it was on display 2 years ago at Amelia Island. He also sold the restored Colorado CSL with non original engine/triple Webers last year at auction. Nice guy, has a lot of vintage cars and yes, ridiculously cool vintage guitars in Ft. Lauderdale.

Thanks Steve, I also thought it might be this guys car that was at Amelia but could not remember his name.

Chris, thanks for the pics but a little advance notice of the show would have been nice :)

Sorry Peter, but this year the show fell on Valentines Day weekend, and I had previously told my wife that I picked that particular weekend to travel to FL to spend Valentines Day with her. Needless to say, this somewhat limited my ability to invite a bunch of guys to tag along!

Give me a shout next time

hi Ohmess (Chris?),
Just saw this thread.
I was there at Cars on Fifth. I had the white 1M next to the fake Merc SLR.
My CSL is indeed in New Hampshire getting re-restored at the moment. Craig's is a very nice mostly correct original car. To demonstrate that all CSLs are different, his has power rear windows, something CSLs are "not supposed" to have.

I spent the day mostly chatting with the Alfa guys, since of all the car clubs in SW FL, they are the biggest "car guys". The BMW club is not really about vintage stuff here, nor about the track. The Brody CSL is not from this region and Mike with the 2002 Turbo hangs out with the Porsche guys. The Ferrari club is mostly older guys with bling cars. I am one of the few in our local region who has actually tracked his Ferrari, or tracked anything. Mostly they are about going out to dinner.

The Alfa guys are all old, but many used to race (some still do), many wrench on their own cars, etc. A lot like this forum! I wish there were vintage BMW people around here, but there simply are not.

I digress.

I am certain to be at Cars on Fifth next year, either with an Italian car or the CSL, so if anyone is planning on making the trip, give me a shout.

I live an hour north of Naples on Sanibel island.

Scott
