Guten tag all!

When I bought my coupe in June, it came with a toolkit (in pieces, of course) and an incomplete set of tools. One of those items is a small (i.e. slightly less than 6") red-handled screwdriver. The handle does NOT say Heyco, but does say "Made in W Germany" and has the letters DBGM embossed on a different panel. Also, the blade is reversable, from slot to phillips. So I'm just wondering if this is an original tool or just a screwdriver that happens to have a red handle. I'm not looking to fund my retirement like the guy on fleabay; this is simply a case of "Enquiring minds want to know..."

Can anyone tell me what I have? Thanks in advance.

Larry that screwdriver is correct... Will you taken $5,000 cash?

Larry,

That is the correct phillips screwdriver...

No, wrong one for...

your vin #... I'll take it off your hands for a buck.

Nice choice in cars

As someone who owns an e9, and e30 iX, and an M Coupe (and would like a tii), you have a nice group of cars. Funny thing - two other e9 owners in Baltimore also have e86 coupes (one M, one 3.0).

Also, one of my red screwdrivers also says made in West Germany and not Heyco and I have good reason to believe it is the correct one.

as execmalibu has stated, there are many styles of Heyco screwdrivers. i do have a small red handled screwdriver with en embossed heyco.

now back to my calming chant (thanks Jeff, it helps) to avoid being obsessed with explicit originality.
i collect vintage BMWs ... i do NOT collect vintage porsches. (all together now) ... i collect vintage ... not porsches.

Red screwdrivers and other original tools

The BLUMAX has now been in my care and keep for 4 decades as of yesterday the 5th of February. All of the tools sans the water pump pliers are those that were originally fitted at the factory and came with the car. On or about 1974 my original water pump pliers walked off and were replaced shortly thereafter from the dealer so they may or may not be "original".

So while nothing will likely ever satisfy those passionatley seeking certainty in their elusive quest for "authentic originality"--the following is offered as a possible aid in that quest.

Chris Macha and i are getting together later this week to photograph the original tools that came with BLUMAX when he was built on September 5th 1969--now over 42 years ago--with the hope that some will accept that they are original tools then fitted to the 16th US spec E-9 that was built and then compare what they have accordingly.
