Hi,
in our german forum I just started a thread dealing with this issue: "Holz ist wunderbar" or "wood is wonderful"
http://e9-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29379.
There will be an english version, I will try to get it ready for our journal.
The bottom line is:
- if you want to have the original look you will have to go for new veneer
- if you want to have a homogenous look of the veneer grain structure you do all four side trims
- if you want to have a perfect interior overall homogenous look you do all parts using the veneer of the same batch
My neighbour Franz-Josef is a skilled carpenter of the old school. I could convince him to help me with my wood.
Here is the first result, the wood shining bright is the one with new veneer, the darker ones are originals.
We choose "american walnut" of good quality for the new veneer
And, the table is Thai Rosewood!
Since I collected some wood during the past years we could do some additional sets:
The colour of the wood stain has been mixed to match the original dark appearance you might still find on parts never exposed to sun light:
We even started reproducing the delicate loudspeaker front with it´s rectangular edges:
and we just started rebuilding the side trims
So we are thinking about offering either refurbished or rebuild parts.
If one part is missing or not worth to be refurbished it migth be replaced by a new one.
We just started with this interesting and fine work and got really good results. Depending on the response we might start reproducing all the other wooden interior parts.
Let me know your comments
Thomas
