Remote starter switch

Considering the difficult task of replacing the ignition switch, I'm strongly considering adding a remote, push button starter switch somewhere in my "****pit". Not that my neighborhood is the safest, (but I'm not sure a 35 year old car would be a prime target,) but the added security of an additional step to the starting sequence is another reason I'm going this route.

I'm thinking of adding it to the "knee panel" beside the steering column, since there's already a few button and switches there already.

If anyone has done this and has any tips or suggestions, I'd love to hear it.
Conversely, if anyone has some compelling reasons for NOT doing, I'd love to hear that too.

Thanks.

Where Steve said... I actually used my old rear window defogger switch. It was worn out and wouldn't stay in the off position (pushed in). I replaced it with a new one and used the old one in the Fog light position. The PO had a toggle switch for the ignition there. An electrical engineer that works for me designed a circuit so off is on and it works great and looks stock!
