Remove front and rear axle plus suspension?

Me again :)

Tried to find some threads about this but did not.

As part of my general cleanup project I was thinking about removing all that to clean it up and paint it whilst replacing what needs to be replaced.

Unless it is too difficult of course....

What makes me hesitate a bit is that the cars were from what I gather to a point hand built and that makes me wonder if stuff just bolts on and off?

Keep in mind I am not a great mechanic and am learning as I go....

I have taken the front one down and off. It´s held by 4 M12 bolts. You need to take away the lower steering column from the steering box first.
We were 2, and I would not do it alone. The main part is not very heavy, 15 kg perhaps, but the steering parts add to it.
The real bummer is replacing the silenblocks/Metallastics at the front. The 2 round rubber parts. The new ones really need to be inserted with assistance of a hydraulic press....


The rear one: take the final drive down first.
Then the beam, with the 2 V-shaped carriers, is held in place by 2 large bolts that you can see the tops of under the rear seats. The smaller stabilizing beams are locked in place with 2 smaller screws at the forward ends.
I have not removed the rear axle, so I am not 100% sure on this.

W&N sell complete sets of new screws, nuts, distance tubes and other parts required. Nicely yellow plated !

That W&N kit did in part give me the inspiration to maybe do this. It is also a good way to get to know that car and clean up some oft neglected parts.

I would do this in combination with a dry ice blasting of the whole bottom of the car so I can add new rustproofing. I tried that for the engine and suspension earlier this year. Will post some pics of that later, worked *very* well.

Anyways, the taking apart seems simple enough. I am very good at that. It is the putting back together that worries me as I am less good at that :)

Was that difficult? I would of course hand it in for alignment afterwards and I do have access to a hydraulic press through the shop here.
