Hello guys.

I have just dropped down the whole rear axle to change suspension/shock absorbers, rubber mountings etc and to clean and paint everything else. The rear axle is currently laying on the garage floor underneath the car since I can’t get the hand brake wires out!
I have removed the nuts at the hand brake lever and thought the wire should be able to pull out when removing the rear axle. But no…

Could anyone give me some pieces of advice how to remove the wire at the easiest way?

yes that's the way.

The wires should pull out to the rear once the two little nuts are off - that's how I did it when one broke. The cable can be a little stiff to pull out, but there's not much you can do to make that better.

If it's really hanging up in there, maybe there is a strand broken along the way and it's catching on the tube. You can try clamping the cable end in your vice grips and sliding it back and forth, or rotating the cable in the same direction the strands are laid, while sliding it back and forth. Either method may clear the sticking point.

Luck and patience, not necessarily in that order, will see you through.

Thank you! I'll give it another try then.
It felt a bit strange trying to pull out the wires with the threaded pins at the end - but they fits inside the tube then?

Are you sure that they can't be disconnected at the rear brake and left dangling? Thats the case with the drums on the '02.

Well, I thought it would be easier to release them at the lever. I'm not sure how to disconnect them at the brakes (yet).
