Removing the speedo

My odometer has stopped working so I am trying to remove the Speedo. Do I have to remove the whole cluster or can I wangle it out by itself? I can't figure out how to remove the cluster. Tried some directions and I am stumped.

remove the cluster as the frames in the way
cluster has two side screws each side on the dash frame
and two litlle screws coming from the bottom of the flat part up to the sides

I may be mistaken but...When I did mine I thought I was able to repair without removing the chrome ring by undoing the large nut on the back.
I only had to move the rod out and re-knurl the end.
That may make sense after you read the thread.

I've taken the speedo out without the cluster. Unscrew the cable and 2 knurled nuts. Pull speedo away from frame, rotate it 180 drgrees so the back faces front and it can be dropped down through the wires and frame and out.

Pull combo gauge first, keep their wires connected, this gives you more room to remove speedo.
