This has been discussed before:
But I commented on BaT recently that the outstanding CSI I looked at in Portland was missing the corner seals. I had two forum members tell me they didn’t know these seals existed so maybe it’s time to revisit. It’s a very important little seal that helps keeps water and debris from the dreaded inner fender compartment. Not that any of us ever allow water in this area :) , it’s nice to know it’s sealed.

I’d been meaning to replace the hood seal for a while and W&N had the best price so I was making a list of items I needed. I noticed that I was missing a corner seal. Don’t know how. I’ve owned the car 14 years, was it always missing? Who knows.
Seal is only 6.5” long (two are required) part # 51711810529. FCP Euro sells them for $50 each, your friendly BMW dealer about $56 each W&N: $13.60 each. That’s why I waited to accumulate multiple items since W&N has a $49 flat rate shipping.
This is the area where the seal goes:

Its not a perfect fit and needs some trimming but not as much as my old one (factory?)

I cut a notch to fit around the seam:

Installed. Pressure fit no glue needed:

With new weather strip installed:

The large hood seal, #51715780175 $65 from W&N. I did not use any adhesive because I don’t think it’s necessary.

Make sure yours are in place keeping moisture from seeking it‘s path of least resistance.
Cheers!

Good reminder. I bought the WN ones years ago but they never rose to the top of the never ending list of “urgent things to do”.
Thank you John.

Why I noted these and installed on my restoration is beyond me but I knew of their existence. I am sure Steele Products has an alternative for a few bucks. How BMW can justify such a cost is alarming.
