Restoring my 67 2000CS

Hi guys, I've had this coupe since the late 70's, number 1103053. I've never done a complete restoration before so any advice would be appreciated. About the car:

I replaced the stock carbs and intake manifold with 1800 TISA parts about 5 years ago, and the gearbox with one out of a 2002 about 30 years ago.

I'm having the engine rebuilt and was wondering if oversized pistons will disqualify me from vintage racing. My builder says he could easily get me up to 160 hp with higher compression pistons and some cam grinding, which would be nice. I have Bilsien HDs all around with stiff springs and a thicker anti sway bar in front (also a TISA part), so this car is extremely stiff, almost too stiff for long highway cruising. BTW the excrusiatingly rare Alpina 2000CS uses these TISA parts I'm using.
 
Racecraft in Seattle has built a killer 2000CS that races here in the northwest. I race an 1800TiSA, and this car is REALLY tuff to beat. Of course it IS less of a box then my neueklasse. See more about it at:

Depending on which sanctioning group you plan to race with, they all like the cars to be 'period correct,' but how that is defined varies with each group. The good groups just like full grids and happy spectators, and as long as you don't get too carried away with engine prep they will let you run. They also understand that finding parts for some of these cars is getting more and more difficult, so updates are usually allowed. Check with the tech people with the group you plan to run with to avoid any expensive mistakes.

The paint is done (verona, or is it granada?) and it looks very good to me (more pics in the next post). The engine is at a local machine shop. The guy wants to use Ross racing pistons, any comments? I plan on buying a seat kit from World. any comments? Thanks!

Three months and lots of money later... The body turned out to have NO SIGNIFICANT RUST, just some very minor collision damage, hooray! Anyway, I need to get to work on the interior. I guess the seat kits from World are a good way to go. I'm having a guy that builds custom pilot and co-pilot seats for West Star Aviation rebuild and recover the seats. I also need the original horn ring, a part I've been looking for for many many years, and the black cowling ring for the speedo, which I have misplaced. I pretty much have all the bits, but I need a new headliner, or my guy can make one if could find the right material. I also have no idea what the original rear deck looked like. I have the original speaker hole ravaged masonite, but I need to replace the the fabric with something as close to the original as possible. My rear power windows need work, as do my front crankers. I could go on and on. Does anyone know what the OEM radio was? I'm guessing Blaupunct but I need the model number so I can start my search. I want this thing to look completely stock. Also, were the the indents in the front trim piece above the grilles painted black, or did they use tape-like vinyl inserts? There seems to be black paint residue in the indents. My body guy wants to paint them with black enamel.

Details

Do you have any close up photos of the A pillar seams and the seams around the nose? I think they were spot welded and then leaded in. I've got rust in the usual places and am thinking of taking the fenders off myself but I don't know what the seams look like and how difficult it may be
 
Here are some pics with the trim on. The car looks absolutely perfect to me, but I'm biased.

The guy who just finished rebuilding my bottom end just called to tell me my head failed the pressure test and that I need a 121 core. Comments please.
EDIT: I just got back from the pasture (we have "north forty" finds here, they keep the cows in the barns) and the head was an E21 in a square light 2002. Not a bad car for $500 though. It runs, but the guibo was repaired with zip ties and wood chunks! Nice wheels, too bad they're 13 inch. Sorry for the phone pics:

If my beautiful Polaris e9 ever gets Tboned I will use the insurance $$$ to by a 2000CS just like yours.

67 2000cs

The car looks great.Looks like your doing everything right.Did you say a three month project?
I have the same car in Polaris and am in the process of reassembly. The engine was rebuilt ,the tranny was rebuilt,the front and rear suspension completely rebuilt,the rear end all rebuilt,and I also can go on and on.This work was done meticuously by my son who has restoration expierience doing a complete on a 63 Austin Healey BJ7. The car was purchased ten years ago from Ca.and just recently started the restoration.Every nut and bolt has been wire brushed and than plated.
If I knew enough about setting up a folder I could send pics.
Again I love the color and the fact that you have chosen a 2000CS,a much rarer car that will end up to be something very special.
If you need any help in parts you may need ,please contact me. I have spent hours and hours hunting parts and know pretty well where to find what is needed.
