The `73 has rubber covers over the rear bumper mounting hoops. These are extremely hard to find so I decided to clean mine up as they become dirty, warped and droopy over time.

I bought some flat aluminum and cut a 12" long piece to mount under each cover. I bent them so that they attach using the bumper hoop bolts and used JB Weld to attach the rubber to the aluminum sheet. I lightly sanded the rubber with 220 grit and painted them with PLASTI DIP rubberized coating in a spray can. When done they look almost like new, very flat and straight.

The finished product. Follow the directions on the spray can and wait between applying coats. I clean the surfaces with SEM Solve.
