The rocker panel on my car was painted body color when it was restored in 1987. I 'know' it should be black, but is Surinam Red! IF I want to remove the chrome trim piece to shoot the rocker panel in black, what is the best way to do this without any damage to the chrome trim (and allow straight forward easy replacement!!).

THANKS for help for those of you who have 'been there and done that'.

Gary, theoretically, you can NOT remove the molding when the rocker is in the car:

but there are exceptions, like my case in which the PO glued the molding to the black panel with PU adhesive

if your assembly is stock you should remove the rocker itself from the car, and then the molding our of it, paint in black and then reverse operation
