Need a little help understanding the pieces that are in the rocker area.
Can't seem to paste the diagram in here.

There is the cosmetic cover R&L - 51131810551 & 54 Is this correct?

Under that is another cover (structural) that goes almost from wheel well to wheel well.

41351814069 & 70

Then a piece with many holes in it. 41111828085 & 86

Then under that or at least shown as in that area is 41111814061 & 62.

This last piece must be totally hidden by 41111828085.

I've never seen in this area so hard to picture by using the diagrams.
These part numbers came from Walloth & Nesch so may on be on RealOEM.

Thanks,
Gary

That is correct.

That is the outer sill, correct. But it does not go from wheel well to wheel well, that part reaches from front wheel well back to b-post. After b-post this part acts as outer sill:

Then there is another part (not available at w&n right now) that is inside the the sill behind the b-post, see pictures.

That is a reinforcement piece, mostly found in cabriolets and such, but the e9 sure needs it!
I don't have any good pictures of that from my own project, but I hope Erik doesn't mind me borrowing some from his thread. Here you can see how the strenghtening piece sits inside the sill.

Erik made a nice mockup picture of the rear of the sill, infront of the rear wheel well, quite complex.

That is the inside sill, the one you can see from inside the car. Here you can see it in the pictures:

Thanks,

Hope that can be of any help, if not, just ask more. I had major problems understanding where every piece was supposed to go before we started replacing the sills on my car.

Cheers,

Wow Robert that is just what I needed.
Thanks so much for taking the time to post this.
I am sure it will help some others when they have to deal with this rocker area.

Notice I said when...............

Printing this out for my body shop guy.

Have a great weekend.
