Hi all,

My car never came to me with the outside sill stainless trim pieces (the ones that run under the doors, attached to the black covers), Apparently the are available, but just not at the moment (out of stock so to speak)

My question is, they only show 1 x part number for these (51131810559) are they the same on both sides of the car? I'm guessing they are?

i bought them from walloth and i can not tell if they are mirror parts, but it is true that they are not symetric

Hi deQuincey,

Can I ask a huge favor of you please, could you (only when you have a moment) take a couple of pictures of your trim for me please, a picture of each end and one looking straight on so I can get an idea of the shapes and what I'm dealing with here.
Also if you could, the sizes, maybe overall length, height and thickness
W N are telling me they are NLA, so I might need to end up making these myself if they arent to complicated?

question on mounting these trims. is there anyway to mount these without drilling holes in the car? my rockers have no holes for this trim ... and no trim on the car ... i do have a pair of the trims ... but i don't want to drill.

to answer your question regarding symmetricality - my understanding is that BMW only makes one part now. 51131810560 was superseded by 51131810559 (which is the left side part). on penskeparts website, the price is 94.56 each.

That's the one RS, Lisa at Penske tells me there not available at the moment, but not a deleted item, WN are saying NLA, so not too sure?

As for mounting them without the holes, you could really only stick them on with a really good Urethane I guess, there is no problem with drilling holes (unless you just cant be bothered, or have other good reasons not to?) as the holes are only needed in the outer decorative cover, so don't impact on the structural inner sill at all (but you probably already knew that I guess :) )

maybe you could mount the under rider using automotive OEM grade double sided foam tape to secured to the valance. They use this stuff on all sorts of trim these days.

Quite the conundrum - not wanting to drill and expose metal, but how to mount but still be able to take off and clean? The rockers have drain holes in them already, I'd try mounting them without the wheel well screws but with the center screws, treat the metal holes before attaching. This way you can remove them and keep them clean without trapping moisture with an adhesive.

Any time you put sheet metal screws into metal you always end up with the edge of the screw-hole being unpainted which of course is a place for rust to start. Really sharp restorers & body men use stainless screws, dip the threads of the screws in paint and install them wet but it can get messy. ~ John Buchtenkirch

Does anyone have the skinny on this rocker chrome?

Seems like EVERYONE carries the 51131810559, but only WN carries 51131810560?

Do you think WN is just selling the same thing (L same as R) and just labelling it as 51131810560?

No, if you search the part numbers on Walloth's site, they specifically refer to L&R . A while ago they were NLA but obviously now have stock. If in doubt, suggest you confirm same with Albrecht at W&N . Cheers, Simon

Having just refitted mine, I think they are both exactly the same, although when I removed them I didn't label them L/R they both fitted back on ok, except although I ordered the clips from W/N they didn't fit. I made some aluminium clips myself, approximately 20 mm square drilled and tapped and used 12mm long 4mm stainless machine screws with a nylon washer and nyloc nuts to attach the trim to the sill, works perfectly.

Cheers. John
