What size are the fog lights that mount on the top side of the bumper?Hershey antique car show is this weekend and I thought I'd look for a set.Probably between the '39 Woodie grilles and the Tucker third headlight stand.

Most of the ones I have seen Cibie, Bosch etc are in the 6 - 7 inch diameter range. Square or oblong ones were in vogue at one point, again make by Cibie and even lucas!

It's a matter of taste, what looks right and what you need them for.

If your going to be doing seriously fast night time driving then 7 - 10 inch Cibie spot lights with 100 watt halogen bulbs are the way to go (too many night road rallies for me :o )

However word of warning - check they are legal in your part of the world and consider upgrading any wiring, preferabley with relays

Spot lights should only come on with main beam on (UK)

Fog lights can be on with both high and low beam, but here in Scotland a lot of folk drive with them on all the time, very annoying at times especially if they are not aimed correctly

fog lights

Fogs should be low, under the bumper, and as far apart as possible for best lighting.

They certainly don't look as good there though.
Neither do birkenstocks on supermodels.

Big "bumpers" look great though on coupes and models!

Let me know off-list if you want some photos of fog lights on coupes. I've been collecting them for a couple of years planning to get them myself some time.

If they are the same as the 2002's , I think that the period correct ones were 5.5 in diameter. Have seen them in the past on Ebay and usually fetch big bucks.

If you have u-pull-it lots near you, watch for 70's and early 80's Mercedes sedans, they often have these fog lamps.

Fog lamps from the u-pull-it are usually in the $10-$15 range.

Fog lights

I was told that Hella still carries them but they must be special ordered and not usually in the catalog

G,
Yes they came out of the same parts bin as the 2002

Stan,
You could always order a set from W&N Germany or Jaymic in the UK

fog lights on ebay

i remembered this discussion when i saw a pair of NOS fog lights on ebay for a 2002...Bosch, with the black plastic backing.

Does anyone know if these were the correct foglights or were the above mentioned chrome backed HELLAs more period correct....or at least look better. i've never seen either on a coupe.

Correct fog lamps on E-9

The most common in the States was the below bumper rectangular type in Chrome--actually s/s--BLUMAX wore them for several years but stones thrown up by vehicles ahead were a real problem as when one lens was broken--to match required replacing both--ao gave up after two incidents--still have a VG matching set with very minor lens rash from tiny abrasive perticle impacts @ high speed on freeways--if anyone is interested.

The 7" chromed round ones were worn by a few E-9's--there is a picture somewhere that showed a European spec E-9 with the round ones mounted above--was more common with '02's (I wear a pair on my collapsed big bumpered '02) and they look OK--but IMHO they were/are awkward/less than graceful appearing on a Coupe.
