Unfortunately the trunk roundel of my '71 2800cs was stolen this morning while I was having breakfast at a restaurant. The coupe was parked on the street, so it was more visible than inside the lot. Anyways, my comprehensive deductible is $100. Can you tell me if the roundels of that era are different than the ones of today ? If I wanted an original replacement, where can I find one, and how much would I expect to pay ? Where is a good source for an original one? Thanks

I think your best bet is Ebay.de. Not sure what you would use as a search term.

This is a travesty, I'll chip in $5.00 via Paypal for restitution and to hire a goon to get even.

Please tell me they did not scratch your car, seems they might not have the proper tools or technique to remove it properly.

Fortunately or unfortunately I left my car unlocked. This way, no scratches or body damage I could see. I park on the street to avoid door dings, but if I parked in the lot, it would have been less visible than on the street. The funny thing is 1 hour before, I got smiles and the thumbs up from two nicely dressed financial types when I was at a stop light driving to the restaurant. All in all, just a minor inconvenience. Hey, were roundels ever made of cloisonné ?

Oh the financial types followed you and stole it.

I am dealing with our Cabrio, my daughter left it parked overnight in San Francisco yesterday, they slashed the convertible top, tore the console up, put a dent in the fender and has blood stains inside the car.

Something to be said for the Saudi way of punishing thieves...

Perhaps the vandal cut themselves!! DNA sampling and track him down.
Seriously though, it makes me sick to hear that.

A friend of mine years ago had a 1971 Chevy Chevelle convertible and he always left it unlocked so thieves wouldn't slash the top to get in.

I have always done this with my old muscle car converts and still do with my coupe. I leave nothing of value in it an always unlocked to avoid damage if someone really wants in. Ignition kill switch. But when it's out of the garage it's never out of my sight anyway.

I had an E36 convertible. I always left the top down..... Of course at night it was always parked in the garage.

I need to ask John in SF how he protects his fleet. Park at Fort Knox?

If it's any consolation, new roundels have slightly raised letters. Was yours curved or the two piece flat style?

I've no problems leaving the E9 at any public places except narrow parking zones around playgrounds :-)
But at car meetings, leaving the car for a longer time while watching other cars I could be a bit worried because the guys there know the value of certain "easy picked" items on the car.
Ain't that stupid to rely more on a drug addict on the street than a car enthusiast at a meeting?
Shame on me!!!
