What is a good adhesive for gluing the truck seal rubber to the body.

Honestly the best adhesive is none or very little. Get the one piece trunk rubber and fit in place using only a dab of glue at the corners. That way you can clean and dry that area as needed. Usually the area that the trunk gasket lies rots out easily due to water trapped under the weatherstripping.

If you need to use glue the best adhesive to use for the trunk is the Wurth rubber adhesive. It is clear and if you ever have to remove it is easy to clean off by rolling it with your fingers and light solvents. Do not use the 3M black adhesive. It is very aggressive and turns into a hardened mess. Good luck!

contact glue for rubber, the sort of glue that you apply to one side (body), and to the other side (the rubber), you wait until both are completely dry, and then you press one side to the other
by the way, bmw sells its own "gummikleber", rubber adhesive, and it is this sort of glue

Good point Shawn. I was getting ready to use the 3M stuff on my foam hood seal, and will perhaps go with a less aggressive adhesive now. What do you think of clear automotive GOOP brand?

I have no adhesive for my front hood sesl, this allows removal, cleaning, and drying like Shawn mentions. My trunk seal is glued in, but my plans are to remove it and get a new one, and left unglued for the same reason.

Nicad . . . that black or clear "GOOP" stuff, despite being ubiquitous, is actually pretty good in my opinion. Sticky and very durable. I've used it for attaching all kinds of trim and never had a problem. I used a few dabs of it (the black stuff) around my trunk seal to hold it in place and it is standing up well. It can also be used to repair rubber pieces that have been torn or damaged- in some cases i've even made little masking tape "molds" to fill in chunks of missing rubber.

The OEM foam hood insulation has it's own adhesive under the contact paper. For the rubber seals I have used very little or no adhesive.

Adhesive by religion....

Fitting parts together with some chemicals is some kind of religious belief.

In this forum I'm free to spread out my "gospel" (please, no meaning to offend anyone regarding other religion :) )

- 3M got a "Super weather and gasket adhesive" and that's for sure a black mess using it for the first time. With some kind of knowledge how to attach the glue it's really good.
I'm using it for heavy duty seals like door seals. Do some tests before "hard core"...

- There are some E9 stock engine bay insulation which is self adhesive. Regarding to the bad environment. Clean metal surface with a fine-graded grinding paper to a perfect clean surface. Add a thin layer of well known contact glue towards metal and attach the self adhesive insulation with a beginning of perfect match...

- Some seals I've noticed fits perfect without any kind of glue on my E9... My rear boot seal is still in place without any glue after 4 years. Perhaps It will do so for another 4 years!

**** G@d! I'm no religious guy, but now I feel the presence of Jesus! Could it be this post or the shopping insanity called Christmas?

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you all E9'ers!

Thanks. I actually got the truck seals to sit without any adhesives at all.

you need to make sure trunk lid is adjusted perfectly as any non- sealed gap, either by compression of the gasketed surface or the glued side, will permit migration of gas/exhaust fumes in to passenger compartment
