What happens if this part is damaged?

I have a problem that my car sounds/acts a little funny when I go over a hard bump.

My springs are a little hard and I plan to replace them with Carls springs but wonder if I need to change this as well. Is it screwed into the bottom of the car and into the final drive unit to keep it into place?

If it is damaged or loose will it give me the clunking sound I get from the rear?

Price is pretty good, 35 Euro, is it hard to replace?

Hey Johan,

it should be changed if you dont know when it was last done. Over bumps if the rubber has failed it could cause a banging noise and also when you accelerate hard due to the twisting forces.

Its easy enough to change, when you get under there you will see - you need to undo the one bolt holding the diff to it wehile supporting the diff weight with a jack. Then undo the four bolts holding it to the car.

Whn you have it out, check for cracks where the part mounts to the car, as this is a known problem in this part of the car - you can do a mod as shown on coupekings webvsite to this area. If it is not cracked i would just cavity wax the visible hole and then attach the new part.

Regards,

Rohan
