I hope I am not sticking my rear end up too high, but this is a great tip for rubber softening. Gummiflege that everyone praises is really just a water based lubricant. That is why it is recommended, as it wont tear the rubber down like a petroleum based lubricant.

Enter KY Jelly. No comments please. I read about this somewhere and decided to try it on a nasty pair of tail light body gaskets I have. I just did a kind of slather on, let them sit for 20 minutes, also rubbed it in by hand and then wiped them down I was pleasantly surprised how they turned out.
 
I used the name "KY" to illustrate what I was trying to get across. So that one is on me. What I did use in actuality, is CVS's sterile lubricant which is water based and also much cheaper than KY for a test run. So brand wise I was wrong, generically I was right on. I actually just double checked the tube and for sure it is water based.
 
Oh OK I gotcha. People are always warning against combining KY brand with 'rubber products' due to its oil based nature.
