guys,

i did a quick search and didn't find this ... and i know i have seen it before ... there ia s 'U' shaped piece of rubber that goes around the bulb holder to fit tight against the inner sheet metal. this part is NLA. i have new gaskets for the taillights themselves.

i appreciate any insight you may have to offer

I used this from Lowes/HD, cut one of the outside ribs off and glue it into the frame, worked fine.

uhmmm .... ehrrr, Steve - i am looking for the piece that goes around the bulb holder. i have the lens gaskets that i got from W+N from my last order. something like this might work for that as it looks very flexible. i guess i will take a trip to home depot and see what they have

after quite a bit of searching, i found the old post that i remembered. there is a rubber U channel made by Wefco in Canoga Park, CA. i have contacted them to see what the minimum quantity i can order and what the price is. as soon as i hear back, i will post and we can see if we can get it. here is the link to the original post

I looked through the McMaster Carr catalog and found part #1120A141. The U-Channel fit perfectly and matched the profile of the original very well. It only comes in black so I painted it after it was mounted with SEM Warm Gray.

The key is to scuff and paint the housing first then glue in the U-Channel then paint the housing/U-Channel again as one piece.

Mike, are you sure about the part number? the online mcmaster carr catalog shows a U shaped piece with a round tube attached to it. i thought the original was just a U shaped piece. this piece has a grip height of 3/8" and fits an edge of 1/64". i was under the impression that we had to fit a leg of 1/8" wide with an overall width + height of 1/4"

like one of these ... 1 or 2

I used something similar to pics 1 or 2 for mine and it works fine. I got mine locally here in Australia from a company that supplies rubbers for the motor trade.

Cheers. John

hey guys,

i am exploring 2 options for this material - as a simple U channel like the original pieces i have. one option is black rubber from mc master carr ... and another is from wefco. the first quote from wefco was black rubber, i have asked them if they can make them in gray epdm or rubber. there is a quantity minimum of 25' ... which is obviously a lot more than the 8' nominal dimension that we need for the coupe (for both sides). my guess is it will cost $15 for black and $25 in gray ... plus shipping to anybody that is interested / in need. i know a couple of people have indicated that they are interested ... and i have kept their PM's if anybody else is interested, speak up quickly as i will be ordering the material in the next few days ... and i think that we have a commitment for the minimum. but if i can get some for others, i am happy to do it.
