Thought I would start up the car in defiance of our latest snowfall but that was not to be. Turn the key to start position and the engine catches every time. Release the key and it dies.

Probably this is related to work renovating the console so the problem is likely under the dash. I removed and re-cored the heater box, deleted the A/C blower and associated wiring, got a few burned out bulbs replaced and sorted out some wiring issues with the stereo/iPod connection.

The issues I had with starting last summer were resolved late fall and the car started and ran before working under the dash. My wiring diagram doesn't show any A/C info - was there a connection I have removed that would effect the run circuit? The charging light doesn't illuminate either when I turn the key - probably related but not the cause? The connections on the back of the VDO ammeter are correct and the instrument is not showing any charging or drain (needle at zero).

Timing and spark are good and lots of fuel through the carbs.

Try moving the key as you release it. You may be able to find a place where the engine will run. If so, the electrical part on the back of your ignition switch needs to be replaced.

I put in a new ignition switch while chasing the stating problem last fall but I'll start at there with a volt meter tomorrow.

Thanks.
