Trere are a couple of pictures somewhere in the internet of a black e9 with a s38 and a rear mounted turbo. I have seen a couple of underside pictures and under the hood. Does anyone have them or know where they are in the internet? Thank you.

Do you mean this car? My photos (I have more) from BMW CCA 2008 Oktoberfest in 2008:

turbo schwartz

I think that I remember it embedded in a thread from one of our Norwegian friends...something about what we do in winter, etc?.....Dave V. in NC

Thank you

Thank you for the links. For some reason I thought that I had seen a rear mounted turbo system on that car. I am probably wrong. This desert sand is getting to my brain.

Thanks for the pictures

In looking at these picture it show's in one of the pictures The exhust on the car is in two different locations. I did just want to say this thread give me little more drive to complete my project.

Thanks Daniel

Thank you

That's the one I was looking for. I searched for it and found it once but I could not find it again. Thank you again.

Maybe

Not necessarily. I have designed/built and tested 5 different custom turbo systems. A system like this does have its drawback and limitations, but it could be designed with a certain turbo size and tubing size that would make the system work reasonably well. It is definitely not a system from which you will achieve maximum potential of the engine, but if you are looking to run moderate boost (5 to 15psi) it could work well. I have driven a 10 psi remote mounted turbo system on a '88 535i with water meth injection that worked really well and made full boost by 3000rpm and peaked at 375whp. Not bad. We built it with junkyard parts and a rfpr. Total investment was $350 and it ran with 11:1 afrs for 60k miles until we sold the car.

This is probably not the way I am going with my project but a good engineer must consider everything. I will most likely will go with a custom intercooled manifold and a Wipple 2.3l at 15psi.

There was a very nice set up on a m30 e9 polaris done by Todd at turbochargingdynamics - can't find the link to the posting but a very elegant installation. Anybody save that one?

Pipes

I see no problem...pressure..Same...like water in the pipe, as long as you have no leaks! I thought this set up to be elegant. Lottso $$$...envy!

nice

That is very clean. No distributor, TB relocated, nice clean engine compartment. There is one problem with it, no AC. That is not an option for me and thre is even less room on that side of the engine with the large head of a S38.
