$$$$$ or lots of time S54 project

I would get some measurements of the engine as shown to see if there is enough width in the narrow (relative) e9 engine compartment. Make a list including the following and WAG a cost for each.

engine mount compatible?
brake booster conflict - Tii swap and changes our Tiltion MC
oil pan swap or modified necessary?
AC and heater connections?
front suspension carrier requires modifications?
possible conflicts with steering box and PS connections?
driveshaft and flex disc?
fuel delivery adequate?
integrate S54 electronics or aftermarket EFI engine management
big brake upgrade with 17" wheels and flares (optional)
full BAT aero kit (optional but why not)
firewall modified?
transmission tunnel modified?
transmission mount modified?
centre console and shifter modification?

Let us know how it turns out.

Add to Doug's comprehensive list:
Buy all missing intake, exhaust, fuel delivery system parts, wiring harnesses, ETC. not included with the bare engine in the ad. This could easily be another $5K. (You are probably better off buying a whole car to part - at least that way you could recoup some of your expenses selling parts you don't use).

Cost for someone to figure out wiring and software to make this engine which was designed as a part of a complete whole car electrical system.

"Little" stuff like and electronic speedometer and sensor for it, since there is no transmission available with a speedometer cable drive.

Complete custom exhaust system.

Radiator and rest of cooling system.

Modifications to car heater and a/C systems.

You're going to pay top dollar to find someone who can do this and make work.....

Take lots of pictures....

I just put an S54 into my e12 racer, I spent more money than I care to mention, and it took 10 times longer than I wanted, and Im still working on the bugs
the e12 would be similar to to e9 in some regards

a short list of immediate problems

you will have to go to a tilton brake set up
I even tried a booster from a geo
the intake hits the master cly
the exhaust will hit the stock steering linkage
the stock oil pan (s54) will not fit inbetween the swaybar and subframe
the electronics, you will need to speed at least 3k to get around EWS
or use motec or similar system, I used a vipec
electric throttle
you will need to find a compatible trans, witch means custom driveshaft
We removed the e12 subframe and modfied a n e30 subframe
then used an tubular custom e46 based suspension
with an e46 rack
then used an e34 525 oilpan and oilpump
made a custom speedway bar
then custom exhaust
fab up a cooling system
etc, etc

My original plan wwas to get things sorted out, so I could build my CSL with a S54, but it was sooooooo much more than I expected thaat plan could be premanetly postponed??

if anyones interested I can post up pics or links to buld blog on bfc

When budgeting for something new, (at least when it comes to science/research) I find you take what you think it will cost then multiply by either e or pi, depending on if you think it will be difficult or easy to get an approximate real cost.

Thanks guys, just a bad piece of meat I ate the night before and a case of cabin fever here in the snowy northeast I guess. Sounds like it would be easier to graft the e9 body onto an E46. Reminds me of some previous post/query about wheelbase dimension compatibility.
