Sacramento: '73 3.0 CSI (I think) Project: $8,000

But there might not be anything left. That upper nose is nothing but bondo, where else was it overused? I see significant rust everywhere, the upper dash looks OK, that and the spark plug loom, the rest is beat.

I see metal under the bondo.

Metal is the easy part. Finding a complete car that hasn't been ripped apart with missing parts is the hard part. I actually know someone who saw that Atlanta car in person. He walked away and he is brave as well.

Of course, this is not a car for a check book car builder.

This car was literally coming apart at every seam. I didn't see any sheet metal on the chassis that could be saved and if its a csi you'd have to source all the injection parts. I told the guy's brother (only guy there) that its worth about half what he's asking.

Find me all the other complete $4000 CSI's. I'll buy them all!

This car didn't have a VIN. The "owner" lists it as a parts cars under the title field, which to me says he doesn't have a title. "CSi" is probably used because that's what non-BMW types call all the old coupes, although it was rusty enough to be a CSi. The car had no injection parts but had some side-drafts that could be rebuildable I suppose. In person the car looked like it had been sitting in a field for the last 20 years. If this car was a complete CSi with VIN tags and a title it would be a different story.

Hi Dan,

I agree that it is odd that all the injection parts are missing. The car does have a CSI airbox mount though. It seems like an odd thing to add the na car with DCOE's. The missing VIN is a deal breaker for me. My CSI is also missing the firewall VIN. My guess is that someone swapped all the CSI parts over to a better CS donor and swapped VIN's and motors. This is probably sacrificial CSI that had its identity stolen. The VIN may already be registered in CA.

No vin stamped in the metal on the firewall? Or one on the steering column?

Correct me if I am wrong, but only US cars have a VIN on the steering column, and there are no US CSI's. Both of my cars are euro imports and neither have a VIN on the steering column cover.

probably right, but they all have them on the firewall/raintray cowl. that part was missing, dang ?

I would've had to tear the crumbling insulation away to check for a VIN on the bulkhead, which I wasn't willing to do. I tried to take a photo of the number on the block but my camera wouldn't focus well enough. I figured if someone was interested enough they'd go back and check stuff out a little better.
