So, this made me really sad. Some of you remember I needed some aluminum window trim corner pieces for my front and rear window. Well, I got some help on a lead from some members here on an EBay ad. Turns out the guy lived 10 minutes away from my house. As crazy as that was, I get to the house and as I pull up here is the guy driving the E3 down the street. So he had a driver. I was picturing a totally picked through E3. Well, he tried desperately to sell me the entire car, as much as I want to save it and every other classic BMW; I'm not Sanford and Son Salvage yard. I have enough space for one extra car only unless I want to play the street parking shuffle with the neighbors as we have street sweeping.

Well, since I really only needed the corner pieces and some other little things he didn't have I declined. Well he proceeded to tell me it was going to be crushed on Saturday. It was a funky metallic brown (I don't think original but may have been, is that Sienna?) 1973 E3. Anyhow, story was he does not know BMW's. His hobby though is to go to salvage yards and pic on the weekends mostly vintage Japanese cars. This car was for sale whole as it was a driver. He bought it thinking it would fetch coupe prices. He had it for sale for a while, kept lowering price and finally threw in the towel. So, I picked some of the hard to find stuff that was simple to pick, he did have a tool box which a friend of mine had been looking for so that was bonus. Essentially got it free since he didn't charge me shipping.

Well, all this is boring so far I know, so here is where it got weird. Couple days later, I'm driving on the freeway to get my computer looked at and sure enough, there next to me on the 405 FWY is the car on a flatbed on it's way to the crusher. It's hard to describe the feeling. Like, I could have saved this cars life, but my grip slipped and down it fell into the abyss.... like it was a person. I thought of all the fun somebody had in the car, what was it's life like, where was the last fun road it drove, all that stuff? I know it's old metal but these cars have a soul I think and it was sad to see if off to its demise. So I snapped a couple shots while driving for posterity and that's the last anyone will see of it. One more off the road for good. I don't want to experience that ever again.
