I have been reading e9coupe site with envy for a few years and happy to say I finally own a 1974 CS Automatic (wife can't drive a stick). Found it on craigslist in San Francisco. Car was sitting for 3 years. Brought a new battery and started up! Problem was it would not move, even if pushed in neutral. When into gear but brakes were seized. Some rust in the usual places, biggest worry is front wheel well/quarter panels. The guy wanted $9k I offered $5k and he didn't blink. Said ok. (i should have offered $1k) Towed to shop that knows coupes and got it running great (brakes redone, all fluids replaced, tuned up, new tires) for $3100. Long story short, I'm very psyched but want to have the rust evaluated and fixed by someone good who knows the issues of E9s. Does anybody know of a good place in Bay Area? I wish Coupe King was closer. Thanks in advance.

You should absolutely go to Dave at Ottowerks. He's a masterful BMW mechanic who also owns and drives an E9, and he is working on an E9 build for me right now. In addition he is a really nice guy and happy to talk about what he is doing to your car. Before I worked with him on this project, he worked on my M5, 850, and M roadster and all the work was extremely good.

In fact if you call him today I think both his and my car (ok, shell, with a lot of parts lying around) may be in the shop.

You can also call Mike at R&M Motors (Polk btwn Van ness and Ellis in SF). 415-474-0600. They work on my 3.0CSi (a Coupe King restoration) and worked on all my German cars (850CSi; 2002tii; 911sc; etc.). They really know their stuff (both body and mechanical) and will not gouge you.
