Great article on Chuck's (iconoclast6) e9 in the February 2012 Bimmer Magazine and the November 2011 Roundel. Great image in Bimmer and very flattering commentary on Chuck's coupe (promotes our e9's as a whole).

I wanted to post Mike's article as a PDF but I saw what happened to Rob's post on the 02FAQ site (attachment taken down) so I thought better of it. I will post a caption of the narrative if someone doesn't beat me to it. Happy new year, again, to all.

Congrats Chuck and to everyone else who finished their project(s) this past year, and drives their coupe.

I did, and I lost! :)

By the way the judge in our class at the Lime Rock Vintage Festival 2011 "Sunday in the Park" was Wayne Carini.... I took a few photos of Chuck driving up to the podium to collect his 1st in class accolade.

For a guy that lives so close to New York, Chuck is indeed curiously friendly :)

Cheers from Boston

I thought I read somewhere that Wayne Carini was in the processes of restoring a coupe.

I understand he is working on the two coupes in his possession. I expect to see one or both OEM to the bone. I respect the purists but fall between Cole and Cain. The attention/recognition is good for all of us (unlike a pure bred dog being featured in a movie).

What's this about NYer's? When spoken to, we warm up quick. Chuck's a good man and makes the rounds. He speaks highly of the select few he shows with. I look forward to when more coupe owners in the northeast can assemble like the west coasters. The 02 group in NYC met with consistency a few years back; great comradery and fellowship.

Thanks for the kind, and funny, words folks. Yup 2011 was a lot of fun culminated with the Roundel and Bimmer mentions. It was my first year of retirement and I really tried to make the rounds of the best shows. Made it to the Pebble Beach Concours and the Monterey RM Auctions again, but the real treat was seeing and talking to our West Coast Coupe and 2002 cult members at the Legends of the Autobahn event.

Also made it to Greenwich Concours, Vintage in Winston Salem, Saratoga and LimeRock, among others. Andrew, if Stella is any indication of whats to come with your Coupe in progress, I’m sure you’ll have a tough decision of what to bring to which show.

Uhm...Chris your Malaga is simply stunning, and it reminds me that I’m glad I don’t have a chance to rethink me color choice. I was there to see your deserved 1st place Concours at Rancho Canada. And Duane, your Alpina Coupe is incomparable and typically makes us all feel privileged to line up to carry your trophies...lol.

Between your cars and many others, I’ve often thought that though I love the car I bring to these events...I could easily leave with someone else’s girlfriend. And p.s. Duane, if you decide not to bring your Alpina to the next event, in favor of the “sought after unmentionable car we discussed”, I’ll understand. Just give me advance notice of where I can see it.

More than anything though, between our West Coast folks and the East Coast Usual Suspects it was a great time of comraderie and cars. Hearing and relating the stories of how we arrived with these cars makes it really cool.

And Roger, I’m certain Duane’s comment about NY’ers is tongue in cheek, as he suffers from the same grouchy weather syndrome as the rest of our East Coast Usual Suspects. In fact, despite a bad weather day we must have been on our best behavior because BMW’s were left blessed and highly favored by the Limerock Concours judges that included, shockingly, Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars. Apparently, he may see promise in the value of our cars.

Forgive my indulgence, but posting these pics will be my last thoughts of the year that was. I'm already feeling weather related grouchy with the Coupe in hibernation, and looking forward to better car days...
