Scam? E9 in SF. $10K

Well...here is the response I recvd to an email. Internet search reveals Annie griffiths 1983 to be an national geographic photographer born in 1953.
Funny thing is I think I actually met Annie g in Mexico in the 1980s.

Anyways..here is the reply...

Hello,

The car, the title, two sets of keys, manuals and some service history records is what you will get from the Mobile-TRANSPORT-Service. The car belonged to my father who recently passed away. I arranged for the sale right before I left the country. I propose to close the deal through Mobile-TRANSPORT-Service, in the most safe and easiest way possible for both of us. Basically, it's similar to buying a car locally, the money will be sent to their holding account, and they will keep the money until you will receive the car. After the car is delivered, you will have a 5 days inspection period before you decide if you wish to keep it or not. If you are serious about buying the car, I will ship it anywhere you want with no extra cost.
To be able to start this transaction you need to register on the shipping company website:
www.mobile-transport-service.com

Thank You,
Annie Griffiths

A five day inspection regime? John Kerry says go for it, what can possibly go wrong?

As many will recognize, this is a classic scam protocol. If there is some reason to think (hope?) it is legitimate, someone local to car -who you choose -needs to go see + check ownership + see it loaded. Perhaps a PPI shop might play this role for a fee.

Vin is 2240113
At least the color and General appearance matches the registry listing.
Anyone familiar with the car? According to the registry it lived in Victoria BC and then Seattle?

No idea about the karen/Annie issue. I just received a bunch of pics.
Here are the ugly ones, oh right...my iPads naming convention only allows me to post one at a time. If anyone wants me to forward the email and all the pics so they can upload. Lemme know. It might be a good ad to the registry?

Ad says SF.

I said I'd come take a look in person yesterday, and it magically changed locations!

I got a totally different story than what was posted here as well.

Magically changing locations was a very rare option. I have that on all my cars.

Admittedly this thing throws so many red flags it looks like it's raining blut:twisted:

What intriguesd me is the Annie Griffith connection and that the 'seller' went to the trouble of getting an email in her name that includes Annie's real birth date., the clear english, the link to A 'real' transport company(albeit, bad repute), the debatably low price(until you see the pics).

Please share your story, or at least the one you got:wink:.
I have my story and I am stickin to it:cool:
Did you get the 15 pics I did?
Please let me know how they got the left front wheel off the ground in the attached pic? Bumper jack? Tow truck? Magic?

Scam scam scam...

I'm pretty sure this is a scam. I've encountered this twice on craigslist now. One for a 4runner and the other for another BMW 3.0CS. Both were from people who were away from the car for some reason, but would "arrange shipping" and I would have "inspection time"

Here is one:

"Thank you for contacting me regarding the 2001 V6 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4, 165,000 miles, VIN# JT3HN86R310345828. It has been serviced regularly and everything works as it should. It has clear title. I have all the documents and papers. No electrical or mechanical problems, damages or hidden defects. Hasn\u2019t been involved in any accident. At the moment I'm stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington but I was promoted and will be transferred to Fort Richardson in Anchorage Alaska for a 3 year period. The suv will be delivered from Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the Logistic Department will deliver the suv to your home. It is available for immediate delivery free of charge at your door, the shipping process takes 3-4 days. I'm looking for a quick sale, that's why the price has been reduced at $2,500, to avoid wasting time with negotiations.

Have a great day!"
Also sent me 10 pictures...

Here is another one:

"Hello, This 1972 Bmw OTHER runs and drives excellent. It has been extremely well maintained with a full service history, 150.000! The car is in perfect condition, exactly as you see in the pictures. No mechanical problems, no leaks, no rust, everything is in very good order. Title is clean and clear, no accidents. I bought it when i was serving in Fort Lewis, U.S. Army base in Washington. The car will be delivered for free from WA, US.
I have dropped my price to $10.000 (purchase price) since this is an Urgent Sale! and I need to sell it before July 17th, when I will be deployed in Afghanistan with my platoon replacing the troops scheduled to come home.
If you're interested to conclude this purchase in a timely manner email me your: Full Name, Shipping address and phone number, to open a case with amazon. They will contact you to explain the entire procedure. The financial part will be managed by them, which means that you will have a 7 days inspection period before committing to buy the car. In this way both, buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

Hope to hear from you soon! "

I'm new to the CS community for sure, so maybe I've never heard of the BMW OTHER before?! HAHAHAHA..

Jesus, nice software that does email campaigns. Too bad they left a field empty so the auto fill tags don't populate right.

This particular ad seems a ltitle different the run of the mill scam stories. The response that was sent to tightbox would be illuminating.
Curious if Dan field ever obtained the vin for the scam he illustrated.
