Occasionally when accelerating and shifting into third gear I feel a very light "scratch". If I am more careful, and take a little longer to depress the clutch and shift, it doesn't happen. It's a Getrag 4 speed I believe. What needs to be done ?

Before any thoughts of tearing down the gearbox in pieces, I would check the clutch hydraulic. The clutch fully stroke could have been affected due to some air in the pipes between the master and slave cylinder.
The bleeding procedure is to be found with different options on this forum. To be sure, do them all because there are no "perfect way" to do it :-)

Sounds like a synchro is getting weak. Best bet to follow Stefans advice to make sure the clutch isn't dragging first.

Next I'd change the tranny fluid to Royal Purple synchromax. That might keep you going for longer.

Once the synchro dies, it'll grind every time going into gear. Only thing to do at that point is replace the synchro.
