My 205/55ZR16 Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 (AS=all season) tires got another screw in the tread. They have 20K miles on 3 of them since the 4th tire had to be replaced since the screw in that could not be repaired.
With the BMW CCCA anniversary trip to Spartanburg, Asheville, and Hilton Head in October/November adding another 2K miles to the Coupe, now is the time for a new set of tires.
Tire Rack has 3 options that interest me.
Continental DWS06+
Bridgestone Potenza Sport AS
Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 AS =All Season The newer version of my AS3 tires that have lasted 20K miles.

You can put all 3 tires in a comparison window to see their parameters.

The Continental DWS06+ looks to be the best choice.
I would like some feedback from fellow Forum members with their experience with 16" tires.
Thanks,
Drew

The tire in the photo was patched yesterday and ready to be replaced ASAP.

I will give you a vote for the Continentals but in a different way.

I have them on my SLK55 and I love them. That car is hard on tires ( can’t be my driving in it ). These have held up well and are nice and sticky when pushed hard.

I have had good performance from 16" and later 17" Michelin PS tires on my 635. I have run PS, PS-4 and PS Cup tires on it. As expected the Cup tires, while very sticky, did not wear well. The PS and PS-4 s have been great.

No real experience with Contis...

I have an Audi SQ5 that came with Pirelli P Zeros (these are 255/40ZR21 tires ). The first set were below the limit after only 22K miles, The second set lasted just slightly longer. I switched to Michelin PS all seasons (for one, since I got caught in a snow storm in the Sierras with the Pirellis and basically had to drive at 20 mph for miles until the road cleared and the tires warmed up).. So far so good. Sitting at about 25K on the Michelins, and they have another 5K or so to go (that car definitely eats tires!! Unfortunate at $2400 a set!!! Only complaint I have about that car though...)

A big plus too is that they really are not all that pricey in comparison.

The tires on my extra cars just age out rather than wear out. So you do have to be somewhat cost conscious.

To be honest - nearly any modern tire will run rings around whatever our 50 year old cars do to them (performance wise).
That being said - When I had my 68 Mustang restored back many years ago, the shop doing the work put on very high performance tires on it (thinking they would give the best 'sporty' fitment for the car). Their thinking was spot on - with those tires, the car was very sporty... but a total handful on the highway (wanted to dart around all over the place). Way tooooo much tire for that car.
I had them remove those tires and give me a set of good old BFG Radial T/A's that everyone knows and loves for muscle cars.
The temperament of those tires matched the temperament of the car. MUCH more to my liking - and have had that tire installed ever since.
That being said - I have Mich P/S A/S 4's on each of my E38, E23, E9 all to good effect. :)

For what its worth, I have had good luck with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s. They are the the old Bridgestone RE11's rebranded. Same exact tire and tread pattern. Have them on F car and never an issue. Grip great and wear well. HTH!

I had the DWS06es on my 911 for a long time until they wore out last year and I replaced them with Michelin Pilot Exaltos. Good all-around sporty tire for three-season normal-speeds fun driving, stood up to rallies well. I’d put them on my Jetta Sportwagen too, if it needed tires. Will do fine if you find yourself in unexpected snow or really cold temps.

If I find myself in unexpected snow in South Florida, I'm puttin' on my old Flexible Fliers.....:)

I recently drove Wayne's car with the Contis and really liked them. I am thinking seriously about switching my wheels so I can go to Contis.

On another note, why are you looking at all season tires? I would think summer performance tires are cheaper and given where you live I would think you never drive in temps below 50 degrees.

i'm with Chris - i would buy the conti extreme contact sport 02. slightly less expensive than the A/S conti DWS 06 plus $712 vs $746. i am looking at those for the 16" BBS RS or $1632 for pirelli cn 36 on my 15" OZ alpina wheels.

Just saying it could be a good opportunity to step back to the OE tyres and get it handling the way it should and dramatically improve the ride with a set of the 195/70VR14 Cinturato CN36 that pirelli have made again.
